First Holy Communion is generally celebrated in the Easter season for children in 2nd grade and higher. Children must be enrolled in Faith Formation for two years as a way of understanding the Eucharist as the Sacrament of gift. In our archdiocese, preparation and celebration of Reconciliation is required prior to the reception of First Holy Communion. Parents are given take-home materials to help their children train for these great liturgical moments.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Reconciliation occurs during the 2nd grade CCE classes. Children wishing to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation must be baptized. If the child was not baptized at St. Bartholomew's, a baptismal certificate must be presented. The child's family must be registered parishioners. The child must be enrolled in CCE classes and have completed the prior year of CCE with a minimum of 80 percent attendance. Parents are required to attend a mandatory reconciliation meeting.
Sacrament of Confirmation - Youth
Confirmation candidates must have received the sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation and Eucharist. At St. Bartholomew's, Confirmation is usually offered to students in
the 11th grade. The candidates must be enrolled 2 years in the Encounter program with the continuation of Confirmation prep in 11th grade.

Getting Married at St. Bartholomew
Please email elida@st-bart.org for further information on marriage prep.
Preparation for the Sacrament of Matrimony must start at least one year in advance to provide ample time to prepare for this sacrament.
Engaged couples need to contact the parish office at 281-391-4758 to schedule an appointment for the prenuptial questionnaire and witness affidavits (two witnesses for the groom and two witnesses for the bride). A copy of a recently issued baptismal certificate is required from the couple.
An anointing can be scheduled when one is ill without waiting until someone is near death to call a priest; please call as soon as the person is admitted to the hospital. At St. Bartholomew, if you are in immediate need of a priest for anointing, please call the emergency line at 713-787-3930.
A person can also ask to be anointed if they are about to have surgery or have come down with a major illness. To make an appointment to be anointed due to a major illness or before surgery, please call the office at 281-391-4758.
The beauty of our faith is that we don’t always need a priest in particular. Unless you need to be anointed for the above-mentioned reasons, there are many other people that can help you through an illness or time of need. The Pastoral Care Office and the Office of Outreach here at St. Bartholomew offer beautiful services such as bringing Communion and visiting the sick.
To schedule a visit from Sr. Lucy or Sr. Raphaella, please call the office at 281-391-4758.
“ Is any one among you sick? Let him bring in the presbyters of the Church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of Faith will save the sick man, and the Lord will raise him up, and if he be in sins, they shall be forgiven him.” James 5:14-15
