Early Life (1974 – 1992)
Father Biju Antony was born on October 22, 1974, in Cherukole, Mavelikkara, Kerala, India. The youngest of seven children in a devout Catholic family, he grew up attending daily Mass, praying the Rosary together every morning and evening, and listening to his mother’s vivid stories about the saints. Serving as an altar boy and watching his pastor’s dedication sparked his own call to the priesthood. After finishing high school, he entered the minor seminary in June 1992.
Formation and Ordination (1992 – 2003)
Over the next 11 years, Biju completed a year-long novitiate, three years of philosophy, four years of sacred theology, and a pastoral diaconate year in Varanasi, northern India. Mentored by spiritual directors who modeled simplicity, scholarship, and missionary zeal, he was ordained a priest on April 26, 2003, in his home parish.
Ministry in India (2003 – 2011)
During his first eight years of priesthood, Father Biju served in parishes and mission stations across India. His day-to-day work centered on visiting the sick, bringing Communion to the homebound, offering the Sacrament of the Anointing of the Sick, and counseling parishioners—living out the Church’s healing mission among the poor and marginalized.
Move to the United States (2011 – 2013)
In 2011, he accepted an invitation to the Diocese of Austin, Texas, becoming parochial vicar at St. Mary Cathedral. Hospital, nursing-home, and hospice ministry quickly became hallmarks of his service.
North Dakota Mission (2013 – 2024)
Responding to Bishop David Kagan’s request, Father Biju moved to Williston, North Dakota, in 2013, joining St. Joseph Parish to serve an oil-boom community. As parish priest and CHI Mercy Hospital chaplain, he celebrated Mass, heard confessions, and provided sacramental care to patients and their families—often in sub-zero temperatures he had never before experienced. Later assignments included chaplaincy on the Standing Rock Reservation and three years as parochial administrator of St. Lawrence Church in Flasher, where he expanded addiction outreach and youth catechesis.
Chaplaincy in the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston (2024 – Present)
Seeking to specialize in pastoral care of the sick, Father Biju was accepted into the Archdiocese of Galveston-Houston’s Catholic Chaplain Corps. In April 2025 he became priest-in-residence at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church in Katy, Texas, and Catholic chaplain for local hospitals, including Memorial Hermann Katy and Houston Methodist West.
Today
Known for his warm Kerala hospitality and steady presence at the bedside, Father Biju often repeats his guiding conviction: “Every patient is Christ in a distressing disguise.” With more than two decades of missionary and hospital-chaplaincy experience, he now brings that conviction—and a ready smile—to the people of Katy.
