On Tuesday, July 16, we celebrate Our Lady of Mount Carmel with Mass at 8:30 in English am and 7 pm in Spanish. All are welcome to participate.
The Legion of Mary will distribute free scapulars to the faithful on the feast day. The Brown Scapular is a gift of protection from Our Lady to St. Simon Stock, a Carmelite priest. There are a host of promises that go with the pious wearing of the Brown Scapular, the first of which is eternal salvation through the intercession of our heavenly mother.
The feast day honors Mary, the patron saint of the Carmelite Order, and gives thanks for her support during the order's difficult early years. The title "Our Lady of Mount Carmel" comes from the story of the prophet Elijah on Mount Carmel.
